Ways to De-stress

It so easy to stress over school, sports, your social life, extracurricular activities and more. Yet, it is important to control and accept that you are stressed. There are so many different ways to reduce your stress. Sometimes even just taking a deep breath can help. Below are ways to de-stress. If you try any let us know your thoughts!

1. Go outside!
No matter where you are, or where you are going, nature has a way of hypnotizing you and letting you leave all your worries behind. With the sun shining or behind the clouds, the wind rushing past you or laying low, the Earth around you can teach you so many valuable lessons if you just listen to it. Forget the world that you live in today, forget all the things you have to do, all of the stress that has been piling up on your shoulders, and just breathe. In and out, in and out. By doing this, you learn to appreciate all of the things you already have, and stop wanting all of the things you don't need.

2. Practice Yoga/ Meditation
Unlike most people's lives, yoga and meditation involves yourself and only yourself. When you take time by yourself, to work on yourself, there is no better feeling in the world than accomplishing the simplicities of relaxation. When you are alone with your thoughts, body, and emotions, you learn to be grateful for the life you are so blessed to live, and you start smiling at the little things. Just imagine, a warm summer day, the suns rays radiating across your back, and the whistle of the wind ringing in your ears. Sounds like paradise. If you can't seem to relax, or find the time to do personalized yoga, meditate for 5 minutes each day and you won't regret it. There is no better feeling than being intune with yourself, and loving yourself no matter what.

3. Go on a walk, run, or bike ride
Similar to the going outside, being active is a completely different thing. Sure, you can step outside, sit on a bench and enjoy the booming nature around you, but there is a significant difference when you start moving. Just as I explained in the "Let's Get Productive!" post, when you exercise, you get a feeling like no other rush through your veins. No matter what your mood is when you start, by the end of the workout, you will feel 100% better. Running is a great way to exercise because it is enjoyable. When you run outside, you get to enjoy the world around you and feel the way the environment impacts your life. You could also do simple things: go on a walk, bike ride, or even a short car ride to reboot your emotions and moods for the day.

4. Read
I don't know about you, but I LOVE to read! To me, the feeling that I get when I am consumed in a book is the best feeling in the world. When I read, I get swallowed into the world that the characters are living in, and I can hardly keep my eyes off the text. Page by page, the story gets better and better, and so does my mood. After finishing or even starting a book, and reading it, I feel accomplished and refreshed, like I had just ran a marathon. Not only does reading relax me, but it gets my adrenaline pumping, and my imagination racing. After finishing one book, I want to read ten more! It might be a problem, but I don't care. There are also lots of benefits to reading: vocabulary improvement, mental stimulation, and stress reduction are all amazing benefits to reading books. Personally, I read a book a week, but reading one book a month will help you out extremely! Please give it a try!

5. Slow down and take a minute to breath and appreciate your life
Self love is the best love. No matter what you are doing, at any time of day, you have to be able to appreciate yourself for all that you have done for others and all that you have done in your life for yourself. Without self love, you will fall into a deep dark hole of desperation, depression, and hatred. You will constantly be angry at the world for something that it can't give you: satisfaction. You are the only person that can help you with your personal needs, so you might as well make it happen. Go for a run, take a bath, read a book, anything that helps you calm down and appreciate the world that you live in. After being in this loving mindset, everything around you will immediately feel lighter and look brighter.
