Sleep...

No matter how much you think you don't need to sleep, you are wrong. Sleep is one of the most important things the human body needs. Not only does sleep affect your body, but it also affects your mental state. Without sleep, you are constantly sleepwalking around day to day life, and nothing seems to be able to satisfy you. The human body needs sleep, and without it, there will be almost nothing that can cure your body's hunger for sleep. Although some may say that drinking caffeine can easily help ease the feeling of tiredness, caffeine provides an all time high for a certain amount of time. But, after that high, you drop down to an even sleepier state than before. This post will consist of why sleep is so important to your body's health, but I will also include what will happen if you don't sleep.

The importance of sleep.

       1. Learning and Memory

Through a process called "memory consolidation", sleep helps the brain grasp new information while the body is asleep. Studies show that students who learned a new subject before going to sleep did better on tests the next day. By using your brain right before you go to sleep, the information that you just learned is fresh in your mind. When you go to sleep, your brain is working to make sure that fresh information stays in your mind.

  2.  Mood

Sleep loss and deprivation is bound to cause irritation and impatience to bubble inside of you. After not sleeping, your body is extremely tired, and on top of that, your brain is tired too. Little sleep can wear out your mind and body, leaving you exhausted and not able to all the things you want to do. Because of this overtiredness, you start to be irritable, leaving you not so fun to hang around. Moodiness and inability to concentrate can come up too.

        3. De-stress

Not only does sleep help your mood and help rejuvenate your body system, it can be a way to de-stress after a long day. After a hectic day of running around, your brain constantly turning, the only thing you should want to do is relax and go to sleep. Going to sleep after going through an exhausting day is exactly what your body and mind both need. So, not only does sleep count as a de-stress activity, but it can help your mind and body relax.
